by pizzu

Buona lettura!

[wptab name=’ITA’]Silvia: Ciao Coen!
Coen: Grazie, grazie davvero!

C: Dovete farlo! (ride)

S: Parliamo del vostro ultimo album, “The Holographic Principle”. Cosa ne pensi, cosa vuoi dirci a proposito?

S: State già lavorando a qualcosa di nuovo o è ancora presto?

C: Dall’ultimo.

C: No, perché tutto è lì, a disposizione, da prendere.

Silvia: Hi Coen! Thank you for being here! It’s the fourth time I see you on show here in Italy, and it has always been so great!
Coen: Thank you, thank you very much! I’m also really excited of being in Italy again!

S: You alredy had the first part of your tour in North America. How was it?
C: It was so great! We had a band of Italians coming with us, The Flashgod Apocalypse, They’re really nice guys and we had a lot of fun with them, they’re just crazy!

S: But they play a little different genre from you…
C: Yeah, it’s different but it’s also the same. I actually never heard them before, but I really loved their orchestration. I think we had a really good tour, with a lot of fun, nice guys and I’m gonna get them along as soon as I can, if I have the chance.

S: And what about the tour in Europe that you’re doing right now?
C: It is also really fun, we’re with Powerwolf, they’re huge and have a huge show, so we can play bigger venues right now, and shows have been great. In Germany it was amazing: big venues, big production… yeah, it’s great! And finally Italy again… we expect a lot from the Italian crowd!

S: We will do our best!
C: You have to do! (laugh)

S: Let’s talk about your last album, “The Holographic Principle”. What do you think about it, what do you want to say about it?
C: Well’ I think it’s our best album yet. The reception has been great, by the fans and by the press, so we’re really happy with the results. It sounds great, I really love the songs and now we’re touring for the first time with that record I can see that the audience really loves the songs too, they have a lot of fun so… yeah, I’m really happy with it!

S: Are you already working on something new or not yet?
C: Of curse not yet. We’re just out with this album, we’ve been working on it for two years, so let’s first play live and have fun again on the road, and later we will write new songs. Well, you know, we are just getting some inspirations, some new ideas, but no songs yet.

S: If you had to compare “The Holographic Principle” and “The Quantum Enigma”, what do you think about these two, what is the best, from which one you got most satisfactions?
C: From the new one. With “The Quantum Enigma” we went through this direction, first tried and came up really good, we approached the songs more to be live songs. So after it we wanted to do this again immediately, but this time we had more time in studio, more time to prepare, so songs are worked out even better. This time we also had the whole orchestra live in studio and that makes the sound even better, so… Well, of course your last album is your best. It sounds like a clichè, but that’s because you’re always learnig from your mistakes and growing!

S: Let’s talk about the symphonic metal scene in general. We saw it growing fast in the last years, and we see also many new bands getting inspiration from the beginners of this genre, like you for example. How do you live this trend?
C: I don’t really watch the trend, I’m really honoured if fans say that we’re an inspiration, but I won’t say that we’ve started the scene. Nightwish, The Gathering, Therion, Lacuna Coil, all the Scandinavian bands… all those bands were there before we were. We’re still there so we’re doing right I guess! I’m really honoured if bands say they’re inspired by us to do what they do… I don’t know what else to say, it’s a huge honour and I hope we don’t blow out of the scene! (laugh)

S: What would you like to say to the new bands, the emerging ones? Any advice?
C: They have to work hard, really hard, and they have to play live as much as possible. At least it’s what is needed. I think nowadays with all the social media it’s really more difficult to build a fan base. Back in the days when we started there was no Facebook, no Myspace, everybody came to the show and really talked about it. Now I think it’s more difficult to get people come to your shows. New bands are probably more experienced in social media than I am, but they have to try to build the crowd and try to get their name out there.

S: So you think that social media is not helping new bands to emerge?
C: No, because everything is there for the taking. Every band is on Facebook, so you like the page, you probably listen to one song, if you don’t like the first ten seconds you go on to the next band. It’s like the great labels do, ten seconds to decide.. So it’s more difficult for the new bands to attract attention. I think we were lucky and I’m happy that we started before this happened. It would have been very difficult to get this biggest crowd otherwise!

S: Well, Coen, Thank you so much for the time you dedicated to us! You have to prepare for the show, but before you go, would you like to leave a video message to your fans at Metalpit?
