Ora siete in tour con i The Raven Age, come sta andando?

Sta andando bene, ci stiamo divertendo.

Bene! Allora parliamo del vostro ultimo album, “For All Kings”: ne siete soddisfatti? E il pubblico?

Sì, penso sia grandioso! Sta andando molto bene.

Certamente!

No! Assolutamente no!

E come è successo?

Venite a vederci, vi divertirete!

In march 14th, during the concert, I had the opportunity to chat with Jonathan Donais, the younger member of Anthrax. In the little time I had, I asked him what does he thinks about the current world of music and how he joined Anthrax. Enjoy the reading!

Hi Jonathan! It’s a pleasure to be here; I’m Giulia, and I’m from Metalpit.it!
Are you excited to play here in Italy tonight?

Yeah absolutely, it’s always fun to come here in Italy, the crowd is really good here!

Thanks, I was about to ask you what do you think of playing here, but you already answered!

Yeah it’s great, the show sold really well tonight so we are going to have a really good time.

You are touring with The Raven Age, how is it going?

It’s being fun, it’s being great. We also toured with them and with Iron Maiden last years so we know those guys for a little bit now.

Great! So let’s talk about your last album, “For All Kings”: are you satisfied with it? And the public?

Yeah, I think it turned out great! It’s doing really well.

And do you think that “Among The Living” is your leading album as everyone says?

Well you see, I wasn’t around back then, so it would be a question for the drummer I guess.

But in you opinion which one is the masterpiece of Anthrax?

Let’s see, I’d say… I really like “Among the Living” but I really like the last two, because I like the mix of hard rock and thrash; “Among the Living” is more… just thrash.

But do you think that the world of music changed in some way from back then?

Well yeah, right now it’s so easy to get music, back then you really had to search for, read magazines… you know what I mean, I bought tapes as a kid, now it’s just so easy! If you hear a band you just click on Spotify and there it is!

That’s true! And do you think that stand out as a band now, it’s harder than before?

I think so because there’s so much competition now! Before a record deal was hard to get, now anybody can just put their stuff out there so there’s a lot more competition.

When you started playing with Anthrax, which was you main inspiration?

Well I grew up with a lot of commercial metal, like Skid Row, Whitesnake, Guns’N’Roses, stuff like that; the stuff that was on MTV all the time in the 80’s.. that’s who got me in the music! And then when I got older, like around 13-14, I got into thrash metal, all the Big 4; and then from there in High School, Death Metal and stuff so… everything from pop metal to death metal.

In your opinion, why are Anthrax part of the Big 4?

Well I don’t really consider myself part of the Big 4 because I didn’t make the name “Anthrax”, so… by the way, they were one of the first once and they have that stand out sound that makes you understand that they are Anthrax.

Did you ever imagine that you could enter Anthrax?

No! Absolutely not! That’s just cool, I’m playing songs that I grew up listening to!

And how did it happen?

The guy that was before me, Rob, he knew he was leaving the band e there was a tour to do (two, actually) and so he called me up and asked me by fill in for. And I said: “yeah, for sure, I’d love to fill in”.. I didn’t hear anything for months and then Scott called me up one day and he was like “hey did you hear what happened?” and I said: “yeah I talked to Rob”, and he asked me: “so can you fill in?” and I said: “Yeah, absolutely!”.. stuff kept coming out and I just kept playing for them!

Do you have any plans for the future?

As far as I know we’ll be touring until the end of the year and then… i will take another record?

Ok so, I guess our time is done! Can you say something to your fans?

Come out and see the show, it’s a good time!
